A 21-year-old has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a La Salle High School student was shot dead during a drug deal.
Dierres Lee, 21, was originally charged with murder. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Officers say that 17-year-old Justin Brown was shot to death in North Fairmount in February of 2013. Authorities say the shooting happened after Brown and three friends tried to purchase marijuana with counterfeit money.
Brown and three friends drove to the area of 1700 Carll Street in Fairmount on the evening of Feb. 23. Discovering the counterfeit money, officers say Lee fired into the vehicle as it drove away, striking Brown in the back of the neck.
Brown was later transferred to University Hospital where he died.
Lee was quickly identified as the shooter and arrested the next day at his father's home.
