(WMC) - A man is in the hospital after setting fire to a property during an eviction.
Mark Chidester is at the Regional Medical Center. Investigators say he lost it when he saw his and his wife's belongings on the curb Tuesday.
"I came home, and I was really scared. It was way too close for comfort, especially since the wind was blowing the flames, could have come close," said neighbor Ashton Smith.
Folks who live on Cedar Leaf Cove could not believe what they saw in front of their neighbor's house.
Shelby County Sheriff's investigators say the husband and wife who rented the house were evicted. And the husband, Mark Chidester, was not happy about it.
Investigators say Chidester showed up during the eviction. They say he was angry and appeared intoxicated.
Chidester reportedly went into the garage and picked up a can of gasoline. He then poured it over his property that was at the curb, and then he set it on fire. A private process server was at the property while the eviction was taking place.
Investigators say there was a small altercation between Chidester and the process server.
Chidester's wife was at the property but did not want to comment. Another man was helping her salvage what she could, but he also did not want to talk on camera. He did say the woman lost everything she owned.
Neighbors say they did not know Mark Chidester well but his wife was friendly.
Chidester is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, setting fire to his property, and simple assault and resisting arrest.
