Suspicious package reported at Sylvania Township Police Department

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sylvania Township Police say a suspicious package was brought to their station in the 4400 block of King Road around 4 p.m. on Monday, April 23.

Police say the package was delivered to a resident in the area. That person described the package as very light weight and wrapped in some type of tissue paper with a wire inside. The man drove the package to the police department.

Police say there was no danger to anyone in the area. The Toledo Bomb Squad got to the scene around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Those at the scene heard two loud "pops" around 5:45 p.m. The package was detonated at that time.

Deputy Chief Ray Carroll of the Sylvania Township Police Department says they take these situations very seriously.

"There was some wires and a battery in it so it was enough on an x-ray to look definitely suspicious and enough that they were very concerned and use all precautions and exploded the device and opened it up. We are gathering the evidence right now to send it down for analysis," said Carroll.

Carroll said there was no threat to anyone nearby.
