MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) – Memphis police investigators are still working all leads to find out who murdered a newlywed couple in their own living room. Meanwhile, MPD Director Toney Armstrong asks that the community focus on the couple's children, who were asleep just rooms away from where their parents were murdered.

James and Danielle Alexander were murdered in the heart of Orange Mound at 2699 Enterprise Avenue. Their 7-year-old daughter woke up Thursday morning to find them in the living room.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong says investigators working the case are just as affected by it as everyone else in the city, but they are trying to put emotions aside as they race to solve the double homicide as quickly as possible.

Loved ones are picking up the slack on household chores left behind. Teddy bears were placed on the front porch for the victims' parents.

"I have a team that I can assure you is going to do everything within the scope of their authority to investigate these things and try to bring a successful resolution to them," said Armstrong.

Armstrong said his team will follow every lead, including the fight involving Danielle that was caught on video and posted to Facebook just days before her death. In the meantime, he said the community must focus on the children.

"Just the fact that you had those kids to witness such a horrific crime, I can't imagine waking up in the morning and finding your parents, both parents, murdered," he said.

The family plans to hold a vigil for James and Danielle at the couple's home Friday at 7 p.m. The public is invited to pay respects.

Police ask anyone with information about the double homicide to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
