Seneca County Drug Task force cracking down on heroin in Tiffin

Posted: Updated:
TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Over the last three years, heroin has become a big problem in the City of Tiffin.  To combat the drug, the Seneca County Drug Task Force has gone all out to uproot heroin trafficking and usage in the community.

Tiffin Police Chief Fredrick Stevens says he thinks heroin's rise in the area is a direct result of the SCDTF getting prescription drugs off the streets.

Tiffin is in a rural crossroads of Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo, which makes it simple for criminals to move heroin into the area as a replacement drug for addicts.

"Heroin happens to be cheap at the moment," said Chief Stevens.  "It's easily and readily available."

With heroin addiction comes a rise in secondary crimes like robberies and break-ins, which is why local law enforcement teamed up to put an end to it with a highly publicized crackdown on heroin activity.

"It's not acceptable to do heroin, it's not acceptable to sell heroin, it's not acceptable to bring heroin into our community," said Chief Stevens.

Last year the SCDTF investigated 193 drug cases.  In only the first quarter of this year, they've already investigated 105.

Police hope that publicizing those arrested in recent heroin stings will help hammer the message home.

"We're coming after you," said Chief Stevens.  "We're going to do what needs to be done in our neck of the woods to make sure our community and residents of Seneca County are safe."

If you have information on any drug related activity, you are urged to call the Metrich Crime Hotline at 1-877-446-DRUG.
