TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A young boy's love of theater came to life Friday thanks to his own persistence.

Tommy Stone, who was diagnosed with autism, called a New York-based theater group four to five times a week for about a month to try and get them to come to his school. Tommy wanted to see the play "Henry and Mudge" at his school, The Autism Academy of Learning, but there was a problem.

"After we talked with them, you know, we saw that we probably wouldn't be able to have the funds to bring the theater group here," explained principal Mark Lafferty.

But that didn't stop Tommy, and his persistence paid off. Theatreworks USA decided to take a trip to Toledo for Tommy and his classmates as a donation.

"Seeing a live production, performance of the show like this today, it might, you know, bring the kids that same joy that I know we felt when we first saw shows that made us want to be actors, and just get their creativity and imagination going," said Benjamin Simpson with Theatreworks USA.

Not only did Tommy get to see the play, but his whole school joined him to enjoy the experience.

"I like this show. It is really cool. It is a really cool show!" said Tommy.
