BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Do you know who's working at your child's daycare? An in-home daycare center in Bowling Green is under investigation Tuesday May 6 after a registered sex offender was found volunteering there.

It happened at Corrine's Creative Daycare and Preschool on Maple Street.

Some parents are very upset but the owner of the preschool and daycare center says it was an honest mistake, and claims she had no idea about the man's history.

"He was never paid. He never worked for me," said the owner, Corrine Bressler.

Justin Guck is a registered sex offender, a parent and a volunteer at Corrine's Creative Daycare and Preschool.

"Just a few days a week he would just come in and help with the kids. He was never alone with the children," said Bressler.

How was Guck allowed inside the daycare in the first place?

"His child was in the daycare and his wife works here," said Bressler.

The owner said background checks are run on all paid employees, including Guck's wife. She says considering he was a parent and spouse of one of her employees, she never even thought to check him out.

"I just always see the good in people, and I don't expect bad people or bad things to happen," said Bressler.

Guck was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor back in 2010. He's on post release control until November 2015.

"In hindsight, yes I should have checked that out so I'll take the blame for that," said Bressler.

Some parents have pulled their kids from the center but others say they stand by Bressler and will continue to bring their kids there.

"Well it happened four years ago. Obviously the guy's grown up. His child was here in the daycare. She's a great daughter. She played with my kid all the time," said a parent.

The Wood County Sheriff says background checks are not required by state law for a daycare with fewer than six kids. However he says their office is still investigating this case.
