Two people are in the hospital and at least two people are still on the run after a shooting in Adrian on Thursday, near the intersection of Tecumseh and Erie streets.
Police responded to a shots fired call in the 700 block of Erie Street by Bob and Harriet Parish Park around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, police found two victims. One victim had a gunshot wound to his left arm, and the second had a wound on the back of his head, which did not appear to be related to a gunshot. Both were transported to the hospital.
Police say one is in stable condition, but the other is in critical condition.
At this time, police have received several differing statements explaining what happened. They believe at least two suspects are involved and are still searching for them. The suspects are considered to be armed and dangerous.
Arrest warrants have been issued for one of the suspects: Jacob Christopher Edmond. It is a three-count warrant for felonious assault. Additional charges are pending.
Police have taken in a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. It is now pending a forensic investigation.
Hudson Schools issued a two-hour delay Friday morning because the suspects were still at large and could be in the area, especially since the suspect vehicle was found within the school district.
Adrian Schools operated under a normal school schedule, but increased security. For example, the high school already has security officers, but on Friday, security officers escorted students in and out of the school. At the middle school, parents had to call ahead to gain entry into the building. The Adrian superintendent has made counselors available because even though the victims are not current students, the students may have friends or family members who are victims.
"We have procedures in place. Obviously, reminding staff to make sure that they're vigilant, keeping an eye on the hallways, and reporting any visitors in the building without proper identification," explained superintendent Bob Behnke.
Neighbors are concerned because the shooting occurred by an elementary school bus stop.
"People do sell a lot of drugs and stuff here and that's what majorly causes problems," said a resident.
Anyone with more information is urged to call the Adrian Police Department at 517-264-4808, or call Lenawee Central Dispatch at the nonemergency number 517-263-0524.
