City considers alternative to plywood for abandoned buildings

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Toledo is looking at an alternative to plywood to close up abandoned buildings.

The product is called SecureView and it was demonstrated on Saturday on an abandoned building in Toledo.

According to the SecureView website the product has the look of traditional windows but can withstand efforts to break it.

It is installed from the inside with a compression bolt system.

SecureView is marketed as a way to prevent squatting and crime in abandoned buildings and homes, all while looking more appealing than plywood.

City Councilman Mike Craig says the product could be useful in the city.

"I can't believe we would use this on every house, but there are a number of homes and buildings that I think it would be to our advantage to use this product on," said Councilman Craig.

A decision will be made at a later date whether the city will use the product on more properties.
