Arlington neighborhood residents fed up with road conditions, funding

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

If it hasn't happened to you personally, you know someone who has had to make car repairs due to bad roads in Toledo. Residents in south Toledo and District Three Councilman Mike Craig were hoping their roads would be taken care of this year, but it doesn't look that way.

Residents in the Toledo Arlington neighborhood are fed up.

"The cold patches that were going on were wearing off about as fast as they could put them on. Now it's warmed up. We should be doing it right," said Perry Lefevre, Arlington neighborhood resident.

Many of the side streets in the neighborhood are brick and hold up well. The main streets are regular pavement and they're showing their age. It doesn't appear relief is on the way.

"We're talking a couple of years down the road before we see any money for our main thoroughfares. And again, everything else seems to be piece meal. So, there is some frustration there and I share Mike Craig's frustration," said Lefevre.

The frustration comes from District Three Councilman Craig's concerns over road repair funding for his district compared to others. Craig says his district is getting the least amount of money, just $190,000 in CIP funds. Compare that to the $1.5 million to $4 million other districts are getting. Arlington residents share their councilman's concerns.

"On either side of us are parks and have not really been given the service and the attention. Now we find out that we're not getting the street repairs that we should. It does make you wonder what's wrong with our district," said Lefevre.

Councilman Craig brought up his concerns Tuesday afternoon at the agenda review meeting and he hopes to get some answers.
