Thieves steal copper piping from Sylvania Township veterinary hospital

Posted: Updated:
SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police are investigating in Sylvania Township after thieves going looking for copper piping targeted Reynolds Road Animal Hospital.

Their work left parts of the building without air conditioning on a very hot and humid day.

The part of the hospital where the animals stay was not affected by the theft, but more than $2,000 worth of copper piping was stolen.

The thieves climbed atop the roof of the building to get the wiring.  Sue Savage, who owns the hospital, says copper from two of three air conditioning units was stolen.

Now, Savage says she's taking extra precautions to prevent copper theft.

"We are going to bring (the air conditioners) down and put them back on the ground because that's less piping, so less appealing to theft," said Savage.  "Then we are going to put a security system around it: a fencing that makes it less accessible."

If you know any information about the theft, call the Sylvania Township Police.
