I-475 ODOT construction begins, could trouble commuters

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

If you drive on I-475, you may notice the large cracks in the new pavement. Tuesday May 20 ODOT will begin filling those cracks which could create a snag in your commute. Work is scheduled to begin right after Tuesday evening's commute at 7:00 p.m. on I-475 at the Auburn overpass.

ODOT officials have had their eyes on the pavement between the Monroe Street exit to I-75. They said in March, once the weather let up, they would begin looking into it. Crews are expected to be out working through the night filling the cracks on the pavement. They will be working every day from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June.

Lane restrictions could be in place on I-475 from Monroe Street to I-75 and on I-75 from Detroit Avenue to Berdan Avenue.

"It's frustrating. It's impacted the public for years. We built it during traffic which was very difficult. We're waiting for water to drain so we can go in and fix it once and for all," said Todd Audet, ODOT District Director.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday night two ramps will be closed. The ramp from northbound I-75 to westbound I-475 will be closed. You can take Phillips Avenue or southbound I-75. The ramp from eastbound I-475 northbound I-75 will be closed. Your detour would be southbound I-75 or Detroit Avenue.

Tuesday night's weather could delay the start of the project. If there is a delay, work will begin Wednesday and run through June.
