Restaurant Rating Report: Double digit violations

(Toledo News Now) -

Sixteen violations top this week's report at Cinco de Mayo in Holland.

Inspectors found unsafe food temperatures, vacuum packaged fish thawing improperly and ground beef cooling incorrectly.

Beef burritos were seen sitting at room temperatures waiting to be fried.  That violation was quickly corrected.

Inspectors say the plumbing and faucets the facility's bar sinks are in need of repair.

Granite City food and brewery in Maumee had nine violations, but a lot of them are in the process of being fixed.

When unsafe food temperatures were found in a cooler, the facility contacted a company to repair it.  The same happened after inspectors noted a need to restore parts of its flooring.  A work order has since been placed to do just that.

There was also another case of vacuum packaged fish thawing improperly.

Smedlap's Smithy in Waterville had nine violations.

During the walkthrough earlier this month, inspectors found damaged and missing floor tiles, and shell eggs stored above produce.

They also found a need for repair after a cooler wasn't functioning properly, and a third case of vacuum packaged fish thawing in a way it shouldn't be.

On to the good news: My House Diner on Lewis Ave. is in great shape, reporting zero violations from its May 7 inspection.

If ice cream is on your mind, Fritzie Freeze on North Summit also posted a super clean inspection.
