TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People living on Suder Avenue will soon be seeing safety improvements in their neighborhood. Adding more street lights was a push by City Councilwoman Lindsay Webb and it's all in the name of safety.

Suder is undergoing major reconstruction with waterline replacements, as well as the addition of sidewalks and a bike lane. Webb says she was the driving force behind this effort and it all has to do with the safety of residents who live there.

"Since that portion of the city was an older, let's say, urban farming-type community, there aren't as many lights in that area as there should be," explained Webb.

Webb says Suder is becoming a major corridor through the city, with a new Kroger, homes, a ball field and fire station. The redevelopment has increased foot traffic dramatically.

Resident Ken Howell agrees.

"I think it's a great thing. There's a lot of kids around here and so safety is an issue and lighting, all of that," said Howell.

Webb says while work continues on Suder, it's important to add these lights at the same time.

According to Webb, the city will be assessing home owners on Suder about the bill. It will cost a home owner approximately 61 cents per square foot of their home each year.
