Tribe sweeps Tigers in "balk off" win

Posted: Updated:

The Indians won an already dramatic game against Detroit in stunning fashion at Progressive Field. Al Alburquerque balked in the game-winning run in the 13th inning to score Asdrubal Cabrera and lift the Tribe to a 11-10 win.

Rallying was the story of the day for the Tribe. They trailed 4-0, 9-7 and 10-9 in the game. David Murphy hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. The Tigers eventually broke the tie in the 13th when Alex Avila drilled a solo homer off Josh Tomlin. Again the Indians answered. Michael Brantley delivered a two-out RBI single to score Mike Aviles to tie the game at 10. Moments later, with the bases loaded and Ryan Raburn at the dish, Alburquerque balked to end the game.

Brantley finished with four hits on the day, he drove in three. David Murphy drove in four.

Detroit's Max Scherzer, the reigning Cy Young winner, was clobbered for 12 hits and seven runs in seven innings. Zach McAllister struggled for Cleveland. The right-hander gave up five hits and five runs (four earned) in two innings of work.

The sweep pulled the Indians to 7.5 back of Detroit in the Central Division and gave them a 3-3 record for the home stand. They were swept in the opening series by Oakland. Their next game is Thursday night in Baltimore.
