PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Former Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine after he was found guilty of theft.

Bratton was accused of using money from a federal law enforcement grant to pay for personal items including cedar point tickets. Bratton has said the tickets were used for a youth fundraiser, and has repaid all of the money taken.

Bratton says he is sorry for what he did and that he has a message for the people of Ottawa County.

"I feel as overseer of the funds I screwed up and there is no excuse for that," said Bratton.

Bratton had already retired from his position as Ottawa County Sheriff when the charges came to light. He had since taken the job as Genoa Police Chief, which he resigned because of the charges.

Bratton says he now plans to spend his time volunteering in the community.
