ParkSmart lowers meter rates in five uptown Toledo areas

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

If you don't enjoy feeding parking meters in Toledo, the downtown parking authority ParkSmart has some relief for you.

The rates have significantly dropped for meters in five areas: the 100 block of Ontario and 10th, the 300 block of 11th, and the 400 block of 11th and 12th.

The normal rate per hour for those meters is $1, but it was just dropped to a quarter.  You can also park all day for just $2.25.

These meters are near the Toledo Lucas County Main Library Branch.  The rates were dropped to help bring more people into the uptown area, bordering downtown.

Uptown falls in City Council President Paula Hicks-Hudson's district.  She says the new rates will continue uptown's momentum.

"Beside the library are a number of shops," she said.  "There is a number of things that are available for people and it's really a great way for folks to get out of their cars and to walk around and enjoy uptown."

The new rates are already in effect, and there is no expiration on the quarter-an-hour cost.
