PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Port Clinton received complaints from people saying that they were upset about the conditions of the city's cemeteries Memorial Day weekend.

The problem at Lakeview Cemetery was the dead grass lying on headstones, covering the names. It was an inconvenience for folks visiting loved ones who have fought in past wars.

The city's mayor said Wednesday May 28 that even though he doesn't physically cut the grass, he takes full responsibility for the cemetery's conditions. He had workers out getting things back in order.

"The biggest statement I can make to the people of Port Clinton who have their loved ones in our cemetery, I offer my sincere apology for the disrespect that was shown in taking care of the sites where their loved ones rest," said Mayor Vincent Leone.

The mayor also sent an apology letter out to residents.
