UT construction aimed at keeping current students safe, recruiting new ones

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

University of Toledo students will see a lot of changes to their campus once they return in the fall.

Many roads and sidewalks are being improved for safety.

The finishing touches are being put on sidewalks right in front of the Memorial Field House at UT.

"Before students walked in an area that was sectioned off at the side of the road. Now this gives them a better sidewalk for safety," said University of Toledo Architect Dan Klett.

Officials say the primary purpose of the construction is to develop a safe and sustainable environment for pedestrians and cyclists. Along with the construction the area is being landscaped with trees and shrubs.

"I feel that is going to make our campus look a lot better than it already does," said UT student and Student Government Senator Nick McCullough.

McCullough says these new projects will not only benefit current students but assist in the recruiting process.

"The first impression is going to make or break a student's perspective of this place. And the way this area is going to look once completed is going to have the impression that this campus keeps up with its grounds," said McCullough.
