TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Three people are in custody after a routine central Toledo traffic stop on Cherry Street near St. V's hospital turned into a major drug bust.

Police say they pulled over a minivan early Monday morning because the vehicle did not have a front license plate. Passenger Christopher Challenger then jumped out of the van and took off on foot.

In the process of running from the police, the man's gun went off while he tried to dispose of it. The man was taken into custody, along with another man and a woman who were inside the vehicle.

Police recovered large amounts of marijuana, heroin and several loaded guns upon searching the vehicle. All three adults in the car are facing numerous serious charges, but Challenger faces the heaviest amount.

Challenger is charged with resisting arrest, brandishing a deadly weapon and trafficking drugs. His total bond was set at more than $200,000. He is due back in court next week.

The arrested woman's 8-week-old child was also inside the vehicle at the time of the bust. Family members were called to the scene to take the child. Police have yet to determine if Child Services will be involved.
