TFD accepting arson fire tips online

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Since January there have been 104 arson fires in the city of Toledo.

Historically Toledo has more arson fires then other parts of the state.

Of those 104 arsons since January, 40 were houses. 

Toledo Fire and Rescue says they need the help of city residents to help fight the problem.

"Arson is a community problem because it impacts all of us. It doesn't just impact the fire department. It impacts those in the neighborhood where arsons are occurring," said Toledo Fire Lieutenant Matthew Hertzfeld.

Firefighters these fires are dangerous, threatening the nearby homes and the safety of firefighters. Now, TFD is accepting tips about arson fires online.

"They can report details like cars, what folks may have looked like, license plate numbers, descriptions of clothing; those type of things," said Hertzfeld. "You might think its insignificant but that might be the piece of the puzzle we need to solve that case."
