MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Dana Corporation has announced an expansion of its world headquarters in Maumee. The move will bring hundreds of employees to the area.

Dana officials have been planning this 40,000-square-feet expansion since the beginning of 2014. Last month, the expansion property was purchased from the Lucas County Port Authority.

"This has been our home since 1928 and it's a real commitment to northwest Ohio that we just stay right here," said Dana spokesperson Jeff Cole.

The expansion will consolidate employees from other facilities in Holland and near Detroit, bringing 200 employees to Maumee.

"It's going to really foster collaboration and that will help foster growth," explained Cole.

Officials expect to tack on at least 50 new jobs over the next few years because of the expansion.

The consolidation is expected to benefit the city of Maumee.

"Those people that are moving from our Trust Drive facility will now be paying Maumee taxes, which will go to JEDZ, which will support Maumee, Toledo and Monclova Township," said Cole.

This project will cost between $7 million and $10 million. Groundbreaking is expected to happen in September and wrap up in July 2015.
