Toledo Police say a motorcycle rider is dead following an early morning crash in west Toledo. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday near the intersection of West Alexis Road and Jackman Road. That intersection was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
Toledo Police say Vance T. Popp, 43, of Sylvania, was riding
westbound on Alexis Road when he hit a Jeep Cherokee pulling onto Alexis from
Recamper Drive. Police say initial investigation indicates the SUV's driver,
Lora L. Staton, 34, failed to yield to Popp.
Popp was killed almost instantly, according to Toledo Police. Staton was transported to a nearby hospital, but is expected to recover.
"I was watching TV and I heard a loud boom that I thought as a shotgun. I stood up and I looked out the window and I seen the accident. I said ‘oh my god it's an accident," said one man who lives near the scene.
Police say they are still investigating to determine what type of charges, if any, Staton will face.
