TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Even a church can't avoid being the scene of a crime. The Lighthouse Church on Division Street in central Toledo recently had something taken from them.

The janitor came to work on Thursday morning and discovered what might be described as a chilling theft. The ground-level outdoor air conditioner was stolen. Someone sliced through a security fence, disconnected it and took off.

"Very disappointed. It took something out of me. I didn't want to tell the pastor somebody stole the air conditioner," said Alfred Alexander.

Pastor Robert Cunningham, Jr. says insurance will cover the replacement cost.

"It's not that they took anything from us. They took from God," said Pastor Cunningham.

Not covered by insurance is the installation of a new air conditioner. It will be placed up and off the ground, away from potential thieves.

"God has ways of doing things and this is going to give us more strength and courage to keep us pressing on," said Pastor Cunningham.

For now, worshippers are doing their best to keep their cool. Fans now fill the sanctuary until the new air conditioner is installed.

Lighthouse Church will continue its mission of providing food, clothing and shelter to the less fortunate.
