BBB Alert: Deceptive locksmiths could have the key to your wallet

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

You know your doctor. You know your lawyer. Now, the Better Business Bureau wants you to take a minute and make sure you have a good local locksmith, just in case.

The BBB says consumers all over the country are reporting being scammed by deceptive locksmith services.

You lock yourself out of your home or car and need a locksmith. Who do you call?

Several international boiler rooms are advertising locksmiths as if they were a local company in your town. They may quote you $80, then charge $400.

Often these scammers aren't really trained; all they do is drill out the lock and charge inflated prices for a replacement.

The Better Business Bureau has received hundreds of complaints on these promoters, who may be in New Jersey or Bombay.

Make sure you have a good local locksmith and check their BBB grade.
