TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There was an early morning police pursuit Tuesday June 24. It led several Toledo police units throughout east Toledo and into Northwood.

Toledo police say other motorists were not in harm's way during this chase. It happened around 5 a.m. and there were not many other cars on the road. TPD says anytime there is a pursuit, it will be terminated if it risks putting others in danger.

Police say the incident started when a patrol unit noticed an older car without its lights on. Thinking it was possibly stolen, the officers started to follow the suspicious car. The driver, Carl Ware, stopped the car, and got into another car driven by Larry Lanting.

Police say when the pursuit happened, the two took off speeding through east Toledo. Police say the speed of the chase was not excessive. It ended near Oakdale and Broadway.

"Their car decided to give out on them on Oak Street by the railroad tracks, at which time the driver, Mr. Lanting, decided to make a run for it. He didn't get very far. Mr. Ware knew better and gave up at the scene," said Sergeant Joe Heffernan.

Police say they verified that the car was stolen. Ware was charged with receiving stolen property. Lanting will be facing a charge of fleeing and eluding. Both men will be in municipal court Wednesday morning.
