Central Toledo building demolished after partial collapse

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Emergency crews were on the scene of a partial building collapse in central Toledo Wednesday June 25. It happened at the intersection of Junction and Indiana. Nobody was inside at the time and nobody was reported as injured.

Toledo police say when a Toledo Fire Department crew arrived, they found the east side roof had collapsed and threw bricks onto the sidewalk and into the street. Barricades had been set up around the perimeter. Toledo Edison shut off power and Columbia Gas shut off gas.

Building inspectors say the building has been vacant for two years. It was built in the 1930's as a grocery store.

Inspectors say the rain caused the roof to leak and eventually collapse. They say the building owner Robert Haskins has forfeited the property.

The building was taken down by the city Thursday June 26.
