ANBAR PROVINCE, IRAQ (CNN) - Iraqi military field commanders were preparing on Wednesday to defend Baghdad against an ISIS assault from the west.

They are getting ready as hundreds of military advisers from the United States arrive in Iraq to provide guidance.

An Iraqi commander says he wants U.S. airstrikes as he prepares his troops to defend Baghdad.

Iraqi soldiers celebrate what they say was a victory over ISIS, which has moved to within 40 miles of Baghdad.
