Toledo Councilmember trying to change city pool schedule

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Toledo's pools are open for your kids to enjoy on these hot summer days, but one City Council member says the pool schedule has to be changed.

Roosevelt and the Willy's Complex pool are the only two pools open on Sundays, which Councilwoman Sandy Spang believes is a big family day.

Spang wanted to know why all the pools are not open on the same days, and when have families have time to spend with their kids, so she demanded answers from the administration.

Spang says the Parks and Recreation Commissioner Denny Garvin said these are the days the pools have been traditionally open and closed, and when the call went out for part-time workers to staff and be lifeguards for the Junior pools, it was for Monday through Saturday.  The schedules are now set.

"I heard from some families that went to Pickford pool on Sunday, knowing the pools had been opened and having every expectation the pool would be open and they could have some family fun on Sunday," said Spang.  "I am surprised the decision has been made to be closed on Sunday."

Spang says she will continue to push for changes to this year's pool schedule, but says, in the least, it could lead to more Sunday swimming for next year.
