Supreme Court rules narrowly against public employee unions

WASHINGTON D.C. (Toledo News Now) -

The United States Supreme Court on Monday issued a narrow ruling against public employee unions.

In a case involving home health care personal assistants in Illinois, the court said SEIU Health Care Illinois and Indiana cannot require those who are not members of a union to pay fees for services such as collective braining.

The case is unlikely to apply to private sector unions because those matters involve contracts with private employers. Monday's ruling applies only to a large minority of public employees who are not union members.
