Internet loses its mind over Tim Howard's record setting World Cup performance

United States goalie Tim Howard put in the performance of a lifetime in Team USA's World Cup game against Belgium on Tuesday. Howard made more saves in the losing effort than any goalie in recorded World Cup history.  Team USA fell 2-1 to Belgium in extra time and was eliminated from the tournament.

Even as the game was still happening, the Internet exploded with memes, jokes, petitions and even Wikipedia alterations memorializing Howard's performance.

Fans started a WhiteHouse.Gov petition to rename Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport in honor of the US keeper.

At 35-years-old, Howard may have seen his last World Cup action on Tuesday. Fans have already found him a new job, though. Someone modified the Wikipedia page of the United States Secretary of Defense, putting Howard at head of the Pentagon.

Thousands posted memes of "things Tim Howard could save," including depictions of Howard stopping the meteor which killed the dinosaurs, stopping Kanye West from interrupting Taylor Swift, stopping the sinking of the Titanic and saving Mufasta in Disney's "The Lion King."
