Humane Society officials say fireworks lead to large numbers of lost pets every 4th of July.
The animals are scared by loud noises and it's enough to make them run away.
The Humane Society says keep your pets inside and if needed, place them in carriers or crates.
You can also try distracting them from the loud booms by turning up the volume on your T-V.
"There's lots a loud noises, lots of weird sights, and people out that wouldn't normally be out as well, so make sure your fences are locked and secured if you're going to have you animals outside, but I would recommend keeping them inside for the holiday," says Courtney Dosche with the Henderson County Humane Society.
And another tip, make sure your pets have tags so you have a better chance of finding them if they do get lost.
