 JACKSON HOLDS OFF LATE STARS RALLY

Huntsville, AL-The Jackson Generals hit a pair of homeruns including a three-run homer late in the game by D.J. Peterson giving the Generals an 8-5 win over the Huntsville Stars Sunday at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

The Stars led only once and that was in the first inning after Robinson Diaz singled home Kentrail Davis giving the Stars a 1-0 lead.

From there it was all Generals.  Huntsville starter Drew Gagnon only lasted two innings and Jackson got to him in the top of the second.

With one on and one out, Dan Paolini sent a two-run homer over the left center field wall for his fifth homerun of the season.  It put Jackson ahead 2-1.  Jack Marder also contributed a sacrifice fly in the inning pushing it to a 3-1 lead.

Jackson starter Victor Sanchez(4-4) was in control most of the day after allowing the first inning run.  Sanchez, did however let the Stars to close the gap on their 3-1 lead. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Nick Shaw led off with a triple.  Diaz scored Shaw on a sacrifice fly making it 3-2.

Jackson extended their lead in the eighth inning against Tommy Toledo.  Paolini singled into left field scoring Peterson.  Dario Pizzano then reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Patrick Kivlehand making it 5-2.

Jackson then in the top of the ninth added the three-run homerun by Peterson off Tanner Poppe.  It was Peterson’s second homerun of the season and in as many games.

With the Stars trailing 8-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Stars attempted a late comeback.  Shea Vucinich delivered a two-run single and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher Mike Dowd cutting it to an 8-5 lead.

David Colvin, the Jackson righty however got Davis to ground back to the pitcher’s mound to end the game.

Sanchez, who earned the win for Jackson turned in a quality start.  He went seven innings allowing four hits on two runs.

Gagnon(5-4) who took the loss pitched a season low two innings.  He allowed three runs(two earned) on one hit.

The Stars(8-10, 54-33) trail the Generals(6-12,37-50)2-in  their five game series.  Game four of the series will be Monday at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.  The Stars will have LHP Brent Suter(7-6, 3.84) on the mound. Jackson will send RHP LHP Tyler Pike(1-0, 1.46) to the hill.  The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com
