Negron hits 1st homer in Reds' 6-3 win over Bucs

CINCINNATI (AP) - Kris Negron hit his first career home run, and All-Star Todd Frazier added a two-run shot as the Cincinnati Reds rolled into the break with a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Negron, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday for his first appearance in the majors since playing four games in 2012, celebrated his first major league start with a three-run, opposite-field homer to right off of Francisco Liriano in the second inning. The RBIs were also the first of his career, and the hit was his second.

Frazier lined a drive just inside the right-field foul pole on the first pitch from Vance Worley in the sixth to help the Pirates finish 2-5 on their road trip.

The Reds went 8-3 on their 11-game homestand against Central Division-opponents Milwaukee, the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh.

REDS-SIMON

Alfredo Simon added to NL All-Star team

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds said on Sunday that right-handed pitcher Alfredo Simon had been added to the National League team for Tuesday's All-Star game.

Simon (12-3), who was the first NL pitcher to reach 12 wins, is tied with St. Louis' Adam Wainwright for the league lead.

Simon joins fellow Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto, left-hander Aroldis Chapman, third baseman Todd Frazier and catcher Devin Mesoraco on the NL team.

Cueto started Sunday for Cincinnati and will most likely not be available to pitch on Tuesday.

This is Simon's first All-Star game.

The previous time the Reds had as many as five All-Stars was in 1991 - pitchers Tom Browning and Rob Dibble, shortstop Barry Larkin, right fielder Paul O'Neill and third baseman Chris Sabo.

PIRATES-LIRIANO

Pirates activate Liriano, option Hague

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates activated left-handed pitcher Francisco Liriano from the 15-day disabled list to start Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

The Pirates optioned infielder Matt Hague to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room on the roster for Liriano.

Liriano's start was his first since June 10 against the Chicago Cubs, when he strained his left oblique strain. He tied his season high by issuing six walks for the second time in three starts.

Liriano lasted four innings, allowing three hits and three runs with four strikeouts and a wild pitch. He left the bases loaded in two of his four innings.

He says he was "a little excited going out to pitch," and that he "tried to do too much."

WHITE SOX-INDIANS

Gomes' homer gives Indians 3-2 win

CLEVELAND (AP) - Yan Gomes' two-run homer in the eighth inning gave the Cleveland Indians a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Gomes drove in all three Cleveland runs. His home run to right off Javy Guerra (0-2) came after the White Sox scored two runs in top of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Nick Swisher led off with a single before Gomes, who also had an RBI single in the second, hit a 1-1 pitch into Chicago's bullpen.

Bryan Shaw (4-1) allowed two runs in the eighth. Cody Allen pitched the ninth for his 12th save, striking out the final two hitters.

Trevor Bauer struck out a career-high 10 in 6 2-3 scoreless innings for Cleveland.

Gordon Beckham's RBI single tied the game before Leury Garcia's hit to center put Chicago ahead, but the White Sox couldn't hold the lead for their fourth loss in five games.

The Indians head into the All-Star break with a 47-47 record.

WHITE SOX-RAMIREZ

Ramirez out with stiff back

CLEVELAND (AP) - White Sox All-Star shortstop Alexei Ramirez was out of Sunday's lineup due to a stiff back.

Ramirez was removed from Saturday's game in the fourth inning. He said following the game that he expected to play in Tuesday's All-Star game in Minneapolis.

Ramirez is batting .282 with eight homers, 41 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 95 games.

Shortstop Carlos Sanchez, called up from Triple-A Charlotte, made his major league debut and hit second. He was added to the roster when right-hander Andre Rienzo was optioned to Charlotte.
