Mercy announces plans for new emergency care center in the Sylvania TWP

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Mercy has announced plans to build the region's second full-service, free-standing emergency and diagnostic center in Sylvania Township.

The proposed 18,000 square foot facility will feature 12 exam rooms, a laboratory and an imaging center.  Emergency care services will be fully operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The center will be located on the corner of Central Ave and King Road, just off I-475/US 23.

"It's an exciting day for the people of Sylvania Township, Springfield Township and those surrounding communities, as they will have enhanced access for their health and well-being," said Imran Andrabi, MD, chief operating officer and president/chief network integration officer, Mercy.

The new ER and diagnostic facility follows the opening of Mercy Medical Center-Perrysburg, which opened last Fall.

"The new center will treat all levels of illness and injury no matter the age of the patient, much like a community hospital's emergency room," said Chris Goliver, MD, medical director of Mercy Medical Center-Perrysburg and physician lead on the new project.

As a full-service ER, the facility will serve a wide range of patients, including those who require a higher level of care brought in by EMS providers. The ER will be designed to treat patients suffering from strokes, heart attacks, respiratory distress, head injuries, abdominal pain, and sports and orthopedic injuries.

Patients needing to be admitted to the hospital, such as those requiring surgery or heart attack patients will be treated, stabilized and transported as appropriate.

Pending final approval by Sylvania Township, groundbreaking will be scheduled this fall with the facility opening in fall 2015.
