TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo teen was remembered Monday night at a vigil held at the Maritime Academy.

People gathered for Tyler McIntoush, who was shot and killed last Thursday after walking a friend home in the early morning hours. McIntoush was a student at the Maritime Academy, where people say he'll be remembered for his laughter and sense of humor.

Ashley Stewart, McIntoush's best friend, was the last one to speak with him before his death.

"He sat down on the bed and then gave me a hug, and he said, ‘I love you,'" Stewart recalled. "But right when he walked out the door, he said, ‘See ya later. Pray for me.'"

McIntoush was shot in central Toledo as he walked home from Stewart's house around 3 a.m. Thursday. Later that day, Stewart received the news and the guilt set in.

"I was blaming myself and it was just really hard," she said. "I still don't believe it."

The school marching band, which McIntoush was a part of, played at the vigil on Monday. There was a poster for friends to sign, and many people were wearing pink, which they say was McIntoush's favorite color to wear to raise awareness for men's breast cancer.

The night was filled with emotion, from laughter to tears.

"I love you, Tyler," his mother said. "You know I love you, and I am going to need you for a long, long time, and I know that you are going to be with me."

But it was not forgotten that the person responsible for Tyler's death is still on the loose.

"Help us catch these criminals," said Toledo City Councilman Larry Sykes to those gathered. "Let's get these maggots off the street."

Anyone with information that could help police solve McIntoush's murder is asked to call Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111.
