LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Three men have been charged in connection with a series of armed robberies that grew increasingly violent at Louisville-area businesses over the summer.
Tyler LeeDean Carter, 18, of Mt. Washington and Brandon Duwone Harvey, 18, of Louisville were taken into custody Aug. 4. The two are charged with committing three armed robberies -- the June 30 holdup of a Rite Aid pharmacy at 5601 Bardstown Road, the July 16 robbery of a Dairy Queen at 11806 Shelbyville Road in Middletown, and the July 28 robbery of a McDonald's at 5601 Preston Highway.
In addition, Harvey is charged with two fast food restaurant robberies in Jeffersontown -- the July 4 robbery of the Wendy's on South Hurstbourne Parkway and the July 25 robbery of the Hardee's in the 9500 block of Taylorsville Road.
Police said a shot was fired into the air inside the Wendy's, Dairy Queen and McDonald's when they were robbed.
The third suspect, Dewayne Mitchell, 20, of Louisville was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4 by Louisville Metro Police with the help of U.S. Marshals following a traffic stop at the Speedway in the 2900 block of Breckinridge Lane. Mitchell is charged with committing the Preston Highway McDonald's robbery along with Carter and Harvey.
Harvey is charged with five counts of robbery and three counts of wanton endangerment. Carter is charged with three counts of robbery, while Mitchell has been arrested on one robbery charge. In addition, Mitchell was wanted on a warrant out of Indiana and is facing drug charges after marijuana was found inside the car.
Mitchell was arraigned before a Jefferson District Court judge on Aug. 5. Carter and Harvey will be arraigned on Aug. 6.
Three other people with ties to the armed robbery suspects were arrested on Aug. 4 on a variety of charges.
Police said Cedric Eugene Williams, 22, and Kelly Lamonte Stepp Jr., 18, both of Louisville, were arrested during Monday's traffic stop at the Speedway on Breckinridge Lane in connection with a street robbery. Mitchell happened to be with them. Investigators said information was developed that implicated Mitchell in the McDonald's holdup on Preston Highway. Mitchell was charged in that case. Williams and Stepp were arrested and booked on warrants associated with the street robbery. They are charged with number crimes, including first-degree robbery.
Harvey was in the company of Terra LaShae Cox, 19, when he was picked up on Aug. 4, according to police. Investigators said Cox was trying to purchase an assault rifle with money stolen during a bank robbery at the Elk Creek branch of People's Bank in Spencer County. Some of the bills were marked, police said.
Cox is charged with engaging in organized crime.
Police said the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed.
