TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Anthony Wayne Generals getting ready for the season coming off of last years record of 5-5.

The Generals bring back strong players, like Evan Brown who racked up 770 yards and 9 touchdowns as a freshman. His older brother Payton on defense is an aggressive, hard hitting, and athletic leader on the field.

"What I like about this group of guys is we're all really tough hard nosed players and we're all striving for the same goals and really just working for each other," said Payton.

Coach Craig Smith says offense is probably the team's biggest challenge.

"I think offensively we lost some kids from last years team, we also got a lot of kids back," said Smith. "So, offensively it will be a little of a challenge early. I think defense we got a lot of starters back and special teams we'll be find with. So offensively will probably be our biggest challenge kind of getting our feet wet and gaining experience."

The Generals anchor on the offensive and defensive line is Mason Zimmerman. Weighing 270 lbs at 6 feet 5 inches tall, Zimmerman is already committed to a scholarship at Maryland.

"We definitely have a real young group," said Zimmerman. "We have a lot of people that need to step up to do big things but I think we have a great group of guys. People are really stepping up and being leaders for us which will really help."

Coach Smith says having a Big Ten player on our team is great.

"Mason's our center and he's our anchor of our line no questions about it," said Smith. "He's a smart intelligent kid and he makes all out line calls and just building around him is a great thing for us ."

The Generals open their season at home against Findlay.
