The Monroe County Health Department has issued an advisory against full-body contact with water at Sterling State Park Beach.

On Tuesday, surface water test results showed unacceptable levels of E. coli bacterial contamination. People are advised not to swim or come in full contact with the water until it is deemed safe.

Health Department personnel will re-sample the water at the beach on Aug. 14 and, pending results, may lift the advisory by Friday, Aug. 15.

Water samples are collected weekly at Sterling State Park. See more information about sampling and testing here.
