Lucas County Land Bank releases list of homes to be demolished

Posted: Updated:
LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Hundreds of vacant homes in Toledo are set to be demolished soon, thanks to a grant received by the Lucas County Land Bank.

County officials announced Wednesday which properties will be torn down. Some of the homes have been sitting empty for years, and people who live near some of them say the properties are much more than just eyesores.

Residents in the Asbury Park neighborhood say the vacant homes there are dangerous and they've seen people trying to get inside them. The vacant homes attract crime and bring property values down for the neighborhood.

There are about five homes in the Asbury Park area set to be demolished by the county. Neighbors there say they can't wait to see it happen.

"I think it's going to make the property value go up for our neighborhoods and maybe bring more families in here," said resident Frank Hebert. "If they see it cleaned up, maybe it's going to entice more people to start moving in."

The Land Bank's demolition project is expected to be complete by June of 2016.
