Ice Bucket Challenge sweeping the country comes to Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Social media has been over loaded with videos of a new challenge to help raise awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

In addition to raising awareness, the goal is to challenge people to donate money. The ALS foundation has raised over $7 million - mostly from the Ice Bucket Challenge.

On Friday, Toledo's boys in blue picked up a bucket and a hose and took on the challenge.

"I am Deputy Chief George Kral and we are taking on the bucket challenge," said Kral in the video.

The Toledo Police Department challenged the Toledo Fire Department and the Lucas County Sheriff's Office, along with other law enforcement agencies in northwest Ohio.

"Any time you can bring awareness to any sort of condition or a disease such as ALS you have to take the opportunity to do it," said Sgt. Kevin Braun. "It's a small gesture on our part but it can go a long way. If it gets money flowing to ALS then it's a good thing all around."

The video went viral Friday and already others are filling their buckets.

"We did have the challenge accepted today, a fire department in southeast Michigan," said Braun. "And I expect others will step up to the plate."

You can be a part of the challenge too, all you have to do is pick up a bucket and challenge your friends.
