SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP -- Sylvania Township firefighters took their message door to door Saturday, passing out flyers in Sylvania.
The firefighters are concerned about the potential for layoffs and the closing of Fire Station No. 1. They want to let residents knowwhere they stand on those issues -- and they're hoping to drum up enough public support to prevent pink slips being handed out.
"We currently are staffed below national standards," says Jeff Bennett. "Any cut, whether it'd be one guy or one station, would seriously jeopardize our safety -- as well as the community -- and we don't want to see that happen. We want the community to have all the information possible to make their own decision on what kind of service they want."
Sylvania firefighters are hosting a town hall meeting Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post on Centennial Road.
