The new Penta Career Center is impressive. The great news is that 1,500 high school students from 16 different school districts go there.

These students choose from a wide selection of technical education programs. They focus on learning specific skills that prepare them for immediate entry into the job market or further education. It's a great concept for bright kids who want to do well in life but may not necessarily want to go to college.

The Penta Career Center features state-of-the-art labs that serve as classrooms. It even has a full-service restaurant, the Culinary Connection, with three instructional kitchens. In time, the restaurant will be open to the public so the students train in a real-life setting.

Penta is all about preparing young people to get good jobs. I think it is a terrific use of taxpayer money, especially since Penta has an outstanding placement record for graduates.

Most of these students will be employed and have a great shot at a solid career. As a taxpayer who helped pay for this place, I like the sound of that.
