WTOL Vice President and General Manager Bob Chirdon
Bob's a clown -- at least once a year -- and he loves it!A big chunk of the cost of the downtown holiday parade is provided by the Distinguished Clown Corps. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, more than 80 men and women will pay $500 each to dress up like a clown and march in the parade.
That's a lot of money.
The clowns toss out candy and give away balloons. The kids love it.
I found out that being a Distinguished Clown is fun -- and it just feels good.
If your business wants to sponsor a clown, it's not too late to sign up. Call Bob Savage or Jim Murray.
By the way, here is how I looked last year (see video, attached). Please don't bother sending me the email that says you always knew I was a clown and that this proves it. In this case, being a clown is pretty cool.
Just ask the kids.
