A big chunk of the cost of the downtown holiday parade is provided by the Distinguished Clown Corps. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, more than 80 men and women will pay $500 each to dress up like a clown and march in the parade.

That's a lot of money.

The clowns toss out candy and give away balloons. The kids love it.

I found out that being a Distinguished Clown is fun -- and it just feels good.

If your business wants to sponsor a clown, it's not too late to sign up. Call Bob Savage or Jim Murray.

By the way, here is how I looked last year (see video, attached). Please don't bother sending me the email that says you always knew I was a clown and that this proves it. In this case, being a clown is pretty cool.

Just ask the kids.
