Like a lot of politicians approaching the end of their time in office, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner is chasing his legacy.
So if you wrote it, what would you say? How effective do you think he has he been at collaborating with surrounding counties?
Has he forged business partnerships and attracted huge support from the State capital? Did he create an atmosphere of trust and respect? Did he things get done?
I think Carty spent much of this term chasing away the mandate he received when he was elected. He chased inconsequential awards. He chased away the economic development teams from other counties by his unyielding negotiation style. He tried to chase a sheriff out of doing his job. He helped chase Jim Hartung out of the Port Authority. He even chased away the Marines.
Last week he chased bailout money for the auto industry. Now he is chasing away a recall.
You wonder if any businesses looked at Northwest Ohio, but were chased away by the thought of having to deal with him? I bet the mayor passionately envisions a different legacy than the legacy he has earned.
